we waited for the bats at the Congress Ave bridge in Austin for, like, 3 hours and they never came out. Well, technically they did or some did, but they came out well after sunset and were in very small groups (maybe 20 at a time) so they were hard to see in the dark. I blame the bikers who were in town for the biker convention. Bats are sensitive to noise, obviously, and the bikers were ripping it up across the bridge almost constantly.
I’m bummed that we missed the mass exodus. Every night, almost 2 million bats fly out from beneath the bridge and all of the pictures are beautiful! I guess we’ll just have to go back when it’s not biker weekend!
in Tempe, AZ there’s a great Italian restaurant called Rigatony’s and we make it a point to eat there at least twice every visit. On our latest trip, I saw that they had t-shirts for sale and so I was, like, I AM ULTIMATE TOURIST, GIMME SHIRT and then I saw that it said “nobody likes a soft cannoli” and I died laughing.
that statue/sculpture gives me grabby hands. I seriously wanted to steal it but STEALING IS WRONG. I wonder if I can commission Billy to make me one of my own?
Our friend painted this mural, so since we FINALLY made it to Austin, we had to go see it. Ryan, obviously, is a ham. But also very strong at font-bending.
