Dear Internet: Flickr Would Like to Become Awesome Again, Too

I call bullshit on this one, I think Yahoo has zero interest in making Flickr awesome again, I think that they just wanted it for the pictures and now MEH whatever.

Agree. Yahoo bought Flickr to monetize it, which they have failed at. Instead, they have turned their service into another stock photo site. I have to think that they intended to make money off being the middle man, somehow, but it hasn’t worked out.

To make it better, make it simpler. Stop messing with the layout and pushing everything into Flash. Make it easier to be social and offer more settings for who can see what content (as of now, there are only 3 options - no one, your friends, everyone). Integrate in a SAFE way with third party sites. Make widgets and things that really work and in an interesting way. When I send something to Tumblr, don’t allow it to be a jpg that can be stolen. The rules say that you can’t use your images for blog headers, etc. (I have been called out on this one) because Flickr isn’t a hosting site. Uh, well, yeah. You are. That’s why I pay for it!
