Rewatching Pushing Daisies and got misty-eyed all over again.
(for those of you who haven’t seen it, the two main characters cannot touch each other but are in swoon-worthy love)
I’m actually watching this for the first time through the magic of Amazon Prime and I’m really enjoy it. It’s terribly cutesy and sappy - so not my thing - but it’s executed so perfectly and with such snappy fun dialogue. So. Cute.
It’s not my usual cup of tea, either (I like fart jokes), but it is just so charming! It was heartbreaking when it was cancelled. We went to a Paley Fest panel discussion with the PD folks and got to see the final 3 episodes, which never aired (they’re all available on DVD and all streaming services). Since the cancellation was a surprise, it’s not the ending that they had planned, but they edited what they’d filmed to try and make it wrap up and it actually works pretty well. The whole audience (maybe 1.000 people?) were bawling their eyes out.
Ryan even won a prize! He got a costume piece that Kristin Chenoweth wore in the show, autographed by her (it’s a sling for a broken arm). Ellen Greene was handling the prize drawing and said “this one is extra special because it was custom made for Kristin and so it really touched her arm. Oh, and her boob! THIS TOUCHED HER BOOB!!”
